Mary had her first episode on Father's Day 2020. She couldn't remember how to use the phone to call and wish my husband a Happy Father's Day. It began a long road of doctor visits that led to her diagnosis in August.
She remained living on her own until February 2021 when a hospital visit led to a stroke that escalated her symptoms and made it necessary for her to move into an assisted living residence. She received excellent care and eventually fell into her new normal. The dementia progressed and her health declined. She was able to celebrate her 90th birthday in August, 2023 with family and friends. On Thanksgiving Day 2023 she passed peacefully; 1250 days after her first episode.
Alzheimer’s isn’t stopping and neither are we. By participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s, I’m raising awareness and funds to advance the fight against this disease — funds that allow the Alzheimer’s Association to provide 24/7 care and support while accelerating critical research.
Families facing Alzheimer’s and all other dementia need us — and with your help, we can be there for them. Please make a donation or register as a participant and start your own fundraising efforts. Together, we can end Alzheimer’s disease.
Thank you for your support!
