About Ellen:
My mom was an elementary school teacher for 30+ years. She loved riding her bike, traveling, reading, yardwork, her many dogs, and most of all, her grandkids. When she was in her late 60s, she challenged my sister and I to a triathlon, something NONE of us had ever done before. Of course, you can't let your mom best you, so we said yes, and worked hard so she wouldn't show us up!! She then upped the ante by skydiving for her 70th birthday, which I gladly let her beat me at! Unfortunately, Alzheimer's began to move in and my mom slowing lost the ability to do all of these things. Not only could she no longer read and do things she loved, she lost her independence, her ability to communicate and eventually, her whole self. Alzheimer's is a horrible disease that slowly takes a person away from their loved ones and leaves them completely alone. It's hard not only on the person who has it, but on their entire family and loved ones. You lose the person way before they eventually die of this disease. I'm working to raise money so that one day, we can have a cure or prevention and Alzheimer's is a thing of the past. Thank you for your help!!!
