My mom, Kathy Cordes, led her life with integrity and grace. She was our family's backbone. She excelled at being executive planner, creative director, trouble shooter and consummate supporter to those she loved and cared for. It's ironic that Alzheimer's disease stole her excellent planning skills and left us, her family, to be the trouble-shooters and her caregivers.
Kathy passed away in 2022 after more than a decade battle with Alzheimer’s. We know that she was so much more than the disease that consumed her later years. So are the nealry 7 million Americans living with Alzheimer's. Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia are NOT normal aging. This neuro-degeneration has no cure and is the 6th leading cause of death in the U.S.
In Colorado, there are more than 160,000 caregivers facing the challenges of a loved one with Alzheimer’s. Family and friend caregivers frequently suffer significant health declines. Alzheimer’s and other dementias impact family members on many levels and can have negative effects on workforce retention and productivity.
Help us shed light on the needs and opportunities for all those facing Alzheimer’s and dementia in our area and beyond. We are raising funds to help the CO Alzheimer's Association provide needed services and resources. Our participation will also help build awareness of Alzheimer's and other dementias and funds much-needed research to address prevention and effective treatments.
Please donate or register as a participant of my team, Club Sandwich and start your own fundraising! This year, the Larimer Co. Walk to End Alzheimer’s is happening on October 5 at CSU Canvas Stadium, New Belgium Porch. Join me and my team, in person, or from afar. It’s a joyful event for anyone who knows or loves someone with dementia.
Thank you! Together, we can end Alzheimer’s disease.
