Last winter, my world shifted. My normally gentle mother, at 84, began exhibiting aggressive behaviors due to Alzheimer's. Witnessing her struggle, alongside my father's slower dementia progression, was a harsh awakening. It exposed the immense challenges families face with this disease – the lack of effective treatments, limited resources, and soaring care costs. Even with the support of my husband Eric and brothers, and myself managing nightshifts, the monthly cost for both parents nears $10,000. And the reality is, they could live another 8 to 10 years.
But we're fortunate. We have a strong support system and financial resources. Millions aren't as lucky.
That's why we're walking. We walk for a future where better treatments exist, where communities offer ample resources for our aging population, and where everyone can age with dignity.
Join us in the Walk to End Alzheimer's. Together, let's turn this fight into a brighter tomorrow.
