This July, I'll be participating in the Ride to End ALZ South Carolina by riding 255 miles to raise money for Alzheimer"s support and research. I will also be providing SAG (support) for the 400 riders who are riding the 255 miles from Simpsonville to Mt. Pleasant in 3 days.
I ride in memory of my dad, Therman Pierce, in memory of my former partner, Dr. Sybil Hill, and in support of Geoff Hart and Hart Strong.
We all know someone who has been affected by this terrible disease, the incidence of which is increasing. I ride because I am inspired by the strength of the more than 6 million Americans living with this disease and over 11 million family members and friends who provide them with care. I want to help speed up scientific progress toward better treatments and prevention.
My dad landed at Normandy at age 18 as a gunner in a tank. He served under General George Patton for the duration of the war. He became a civil engineer and later a successful businessman before he developed Alzheimer's. By the time he died at age 65 he no longer recognized me, his eldest son. We are making progress in the goals of treatment and prevention of this disease that devastates families, but more research dollars are needed.
By participating in Ride to End ALZ South Carolina, I'm fueling support services and cutting-edge research to change the trajectory of Alzheimer's disease. Each dollar I raise helps advance research toward the first survivor of Alzheimer's and provide help for those facing dementia today.
I would greatly appreciate your support as I raise money for this worthwhile cause.
Cheer Me On!
