We are helping to raise money to fight against Alzheimer's. The sad truth is there is no cure at this time. Our only hope is that they can develop a medication that will slow it down. If you have never known someone with Alzheimer's, you are lucky. This disease has impacted my family's life a few times. First my grandmother had it and now my mom. It starts out slowly. You don't even notice anything at first. You just think they are getting older and forgetful. After a little bit you notice that they are even more forgetful than they were before. You see in their eyes that they are a little more vacant. When they look at you, they don't really see you OR worse yet, they don't recognize you. They get antsy and irritable. They aren't comfortable in their own skin. They are scared. They don't know what is going on. Things are changing that they can't control. The person you have known your entire life isn't there anymore. All the wonderful memories you share with them are just that, memories......and now only yours. They don't remember them.
