Why am I walking to end Alzheimer's again this year? It's simple. 6.5 million Americans are living with the disease and by 2050, this number is projected to rise to nearly 13 million. People don't talk about it. We brush off warning signs as old age-related symptoms. But in fact, fewer than 1 in 5 Americans are familiar with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) which can be an early stage of Alzheimer's. This mind-robbing disease has affected me many times. I lost my dad in 2014 to Lewey Body Dementia and Alzheimer's Disease. Watching a loved one deteriorate from this disease is devasting and we have to be their advocates! Women are especially vulnerable because two thirds of Americans with Alzheimer's are women. I feel like if we all do our part and fight this fight together, we can make a difference. This is why I walk.
