Our story is like many, we lost four family members to Alzheimers and other dementias; and have another family member who is suffering today, along with their caregiver.
And this year we have even more reason to Walk, as we enter the Era of Treatment! That's right, there are now FDA approved medications that help delay the progression of the disease for some people in early stages of dementia! It is not a cure (yet), but to those who have benefitted from these new treatments, it is priceless to have more time with their loved ones and participate in decisions after a diagnosis. And there more more in the pipeline!
So yes, we are walking at Fort Adams Park in Newport, RI on Saturday, September 23rd to honor those we have lost, those who are struggling, and all the amazing caregivers.
All Association programs (education, support groups, program and outreach, etc) are free and the Walk is the number one fundraiser to support these vital services. Please consider making a donation if you are able, to help advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association once again this year.
Thank you for helping us continue to fight against Alzheimer's disease and all other dementias. It is working!
All our love,
Nicki & Joe
