It wasn't until I met Miss Dodge City Paige Harding in 2019 that I became AWARE of the shocking number of Kansans whose destinies will be arrested by Alzheimer's disease by 2025. In two years' time, it is projected that as many as 64,000 Kansans over the age of 65 will have Alzheimer's disease. (source: ks.gov)
And thanks to better diagnosis, some Alzheimer’s patients have been identified as young as in their 30s.
Three years after Paige made me aware of that fact it still scares me.
I accepted a postcard invitation to attend an Alzheimer's support group in Dodge City from Judy Hinnergardt, who started the group back in the 1980s. It's the longest running in the world now.
She taught me the term for the person who is on the receiving end of a CAREGIVER is called a CARE PARTNER.
I have so much more to learn and am eager to help, and I’m glad you are too.
