Ten years ago, my Grandma Pearlie, passed away from Alzheimer's at the age of 95. While she lived a long full life surrounded by the family she loved so much, her final years were spent in the shadow of Alzheimer's. I walk to raise funds and awareness to advance the fight against this disease so others do not have to experience what my beloved Grandma and her family did.
The disease came upon her gradually initially causing her to be forgetful and progressed over the years. For her own safety and well being, she spent her final years in a nursing home with a dedicated Alzheimer's ward. By the end, she no longer knew her own name or those of her beloved family members.
Alzheimer’s isn’t stopping and neither are we. By participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s®, I’m raising funds and awareness to advance the fight against this disease — funds that allow the Alzheimer’s Association® to provide 24/7 care and support while accelerating critical research.
Families facing Alzheimer’s and all other dementia need us now more than ever — and with your help, we can be there for them. Please join our team, make a donation, become a sponsor, volunteer or register as a participant and start your own fundraising. Together, we can end Alzheimer’s disease.
Thank you for helping advance Alzheimer's support, care and research.
