On March 23, 2016, a three-word diagnosis turned my life upside-down: younger-onset dementia. I’d watched my own father fade away from Alzheimer’s years before. But at 51 years old, I never thought I’d face the same fate. Most people associate dementia with old age. But younger-onset, also called early-onset dementia, affects people like me whose symptoms begin before the age of 65. Doctors do not yet understand why cases like mine occur at such an early age, nor why the disease often progresses more quickly in early-onset patients. With your help, I hope doctors can continue to study this disease that affects me, my family, and millions of others who have watched loved ones slip away before their eyes. I have too much life left to live to let this disease get the best of me. That’s why I’m participating in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s: to fight back and to help find a cure! Please help me by donating to my page or joining my team. Together, we can make a difference.
