Alzheimer’s isn’t stopping and neither are we. By participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s, I’m raising awareness and funds to advance the fight against this disease — funds that allow the Alzheimer’s Association to provide 24/7 care and support while accelerating critical research.
Toni O'Connell was one of my best friends. She was my high school friend, my nurse colleague friend, my fire sister, and my beach buddy.
Toni & I had a friendship that spanned over 40 years. We met when we were freshman in high school, and through the years we had many adventures together. Toni & I shared a lot of life's ups & downs . No matter how much time had passed since we had talked or seen each other, all I had to do was call her and she would be there for me. When Toni was diagnosed with Early onset Alzheimer's in 2016, she was only 47 years old, she handled it exactly as anyone who knew her would expect her to- with humor, faith , & determination. As a nurse, Toni went into advocacy mode & spoke at many events across the state. Toni & I spent a lot of time talking in those beginning days and months. She was determined to make a difference, even though she knew it would not likely make a difference for her . I made a couple of promises to her, and one of them I will share with you- I promised her that I would continue her fight against Alzheimer's disease when she was no longer able to . Toni lost her battle with Alzheimer's in October of 2023, she was only 55 years old. I am here to keep that promise I made to my friend & to ask you to help me .
Our team, Team Fearless , is participating in the Walk to End Alzheimer's , and I am asking for donations so I can keep my promise to Toni & continue her fight for her. Any donation is appreciated, no donation is too small .
Families facing Alzheimer’s and all other dementia need us — and with your help, we can be there for them. Please make a donation or register as a participant and start your own fundraising efforts. Together, we can end Alzheimer’s disease.
Thank you for your support!
