My sisters and I started walking in the Fond du Lac County Walk to End Alzheimer's 9 years ago due to our mom being diagnosed with Mild Cognitive Impairment at the age of 61. We started noticing that our mom seemed to get confused about things we had spoken to her about, forget things a lot easier, and even got lost coming home from work. She of course thought she was just getting "old" and was more forgetful. At that time my mom was still working a full-time job, a part-time job and basically doing everything she had always been doing. My mom eventually had to quit her jobs, stop driving, and needed a full-time caregiver to help her with her daily living. 10 years later, on October 8, 2023, my mom lost her battle with Alzheimer's. It was so difficult losing my mom that day, but probably even more difficult was watching her day after day, lose a piece of her self and eventually not be able to walk, talk, eat, or know who her family was. Thankfully we have been blessed with a strong support system along with our faith in God. We are so thankful for the Alzheimer's Association to provide our family with education, support, and research to hopefully one day find a cure!! We want to be able to help other families who are impacted by this life-changing disease.
If you would like to walk with us, we would love to have you!!! If you feel compelled to donate to help us support other families who are or will be dealing with this disease we would greatly appreciate it!!
Thank you so much for reading my story!
