Since my dad, Bruce, passed away in 2017, he has missed so much -- the births of his grandson and two granddaughters, the adoption of his two granddogs, my mom's retirement, new jobs, new moves, houses bought, houses sold. The list goes on and on. We miss him so much. But the truth is we've been missing him long before he died
When he was diagnosed in 2011, we already had an idea of the journey ahead of us as a family. My dad's mother had dementia, and his uncle and dad both had Alzheimer's. We knew it wouldn't be pretty.
And it wasn't. The delusions, the violent outbursts, the wandering. And it wasn't just memory loss. There was loss of speech too. Loss of recognition.
That's why each year since his diagnosis, I have raised money to research for a cure and support caregivers and Alzheimer's patients who are struggling. It is my honor to do what I can to keep my dad's memory alive and continue the fight so the future can be one without Alzheimer's.
Families facing Alzheimer’s and all other dementia need us — and with your help, we can be there for them. Please make a donation or register as a participant and start your own fundraising efforts. Together, we can end Alzheimer’s disease.
