Alzheimer’s isn’t stopping and neither are we. By participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s, I’m raising awareness and funds to advance the fight against this disease — funds that allow the Alzheimer’s Association to provide 24/7 care and support while accelerating critical research.
My inspiration for supporting this cause, and participating in the Walk to End Alzheimer's, came from the actresses (and sisters) Ashley Williams & Kimberly Williams Paisley. They lost their mother to Alzheimer's and have shared much of their story on social media, as well as their support to #EndALZ. They started a Dance Party to End ALZ and in October of 2024, I attended the fundraiser in California with my step-sister Jackie. While I had the privilege of meeting many actors and actresses from my favorite Hallmark movies, it was the conversations with them of their own experiences and loss from this horrible disease that helped light this passion inside of me to do something.
I am participating in the Walk to End Alzheimer's on Saturday, October 4th in Schenectady, NY. I am walking in honor of my Grandmom & Pop-Pop Brookover, who lost their fight with the disease many years ago. I am also walking in honor of my mother (their daughter), who has not received a diagnosis, but could be dealing with this disease presently. Lastly, I am walking to help raise funds for research, so that maybe in the future, me and my sister will be able to beat this disease.
Being part of the Walk to End Alzheimer's is a way to help me connect with those that are also navigating these choppy waters of the disease. Whether being diagnosed, caring for loved ones, or empathizing with those suffering, we all could use support. So rather than feel alone and not know what to do, I am getting out there and walking to feel I have contributed to the end to ALZ.
Families facing Alzheimer’s and all other dementia need us — and with your help, we can be there for them. Please make a donation or register as a participant and start your own fundraising efforts. Together, we can end Alzheimer’s disease.
Thank you for your support!
