Unite in a movement to reclaim the future for millions. Join our team for the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's®, the nation's largest event to raise awareness and funds to fight Alzheimer's disease. Together, we can advance research to treat and prevent Alzheimer's, and provide programs to improve the lives of millions of affected Americans.
Why do I walk? I walk for my older brother who passed away with frontotemporal dementia (FTD) and vascular dementia (mixed dementia), my two cousins (who have also passed) with Alzheimer’s, for Ray, a wonderful neighbor who also succumbed to the devastating effects of dementia, and for all the rest of us.
Look around…the face of Alzheimer’s is us. Whether you are an individual who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia, a wife, husband, sibling, child, friend, a caregiver, an healthcare aide, – Alzheimer’s is affecting your life. And the Alzheimer's Association is there for all of us.
We have over 40,000 individuals with Alzheimer’s disease in our chapter's seven-county service area. Hard to wrap your head around that number? Well, consider the following: the City of Poughkeepsie has a population of approximately 32,000; Kingston has approximately 24,000; Newburgh 30,000; Monticello 6,700; New City 34,000, Carmel 34,000; and White Plains 57,000. With the exception of White Plains, 40,000 is greater than most of these cities and towns!
Did you know that when our care consultants meet with individuals and families in our offices or at family homes, there is currently no charge for these consultations? We have support groups all over the service area...open to caregivers and early stage individuals (with a prior screening by a care consultant)...free of charge. We provide information, training, guidance, and sometimes, just someone to listen.
Come on…join my team and take a walk with me -- the view from the Walkway is awesome! Or donate, and support these services and the efforts to find a cure for Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia.
I hope to see you on the Walkway...maybe that first survivor will be walking there too!
Thanks.
