The Alzheimer’s journey was one of, if not THE most difficult journey, that I have traveled in my life. I watched my mom struggle with so many horrible changes in her life and then come to the point where she was no longer the strong, confident, smart, and beautiful woman that I admired so greatly. She fought the battle hard for many years and passed in June 2012. I still miss her every day and often find myself yearning to have at least one more conversation with her. Most of all, I wish she could have seen my children as adults, met all of their spouses, and her great grandchildren. I walk in her memory, each step of every day, and especially during this Walk.
I recently lost my Uncle Pat, Patrick Miles Daly. Pat exhibited dementia during his difficult fight against Parkinson's disease. Pat was like a second father to me and someone who was always there, especially when I needed him most. His love of life and great wisdom will never be forgotten. I walk in his memory.
Finally, I honor my cousin, Tommi Cavanaugh, who lost his battle with dementia way too young. Loved by many, Tommi is especially missed by his siblings, wife and young son.
By participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s, I’m raising awareness and funds to advance the fight against this disease and other forms of dementia — funds that allow the Alzheimer’s Association to provide care and family support while accelerating critical research. Every dollar counts and brings us closer to a world without Alzheimer's and dementia. Let's make a difference together--your generosity and support are the keys to success!
Together, we can end Alzheimer’s disease. Thank you for your support!
