My mom Tillie Suffered a stroke in 2010. Over the course of the next several years, she developed vascular dementia and I watched helplessly as this strong and independent woman deteriorated into someone I didn't recognize and who didn't recognize me. Our family lost her in 2017 and we miss her every single day.
Tillie's journey was incredibly hard for her and for our family. If you know, you know. And if you don't, I pray that you never do. My greatest wish is for no other family to have to endure this agonizing fight.
During Tillie's journey, I gained valuable insights, resources and supports through the Alzheimer's Association and that is why I am participating in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s. I’m raising funds and awareness to advance the fight against this disease — funds that allow the Alzheimer’s Association to provide 24/7 care and support while accelerating critical research. And we're gaining ground! Within the past 18 months, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved three Alzheimer's treatments that change the underlying course of the disease in it's early stages.. And most recently, scientists have developed relatively inexpensive and highly accurate blood-based biomarkers for Alzheimer's, revolutionizing prospects for therapies that might delay or even prevent Alzheimer's by catching the disease before symptoms -and brain damage - begin.
Families facing Alzheimer's and all other dementia need us now more than ever - and with your help, we can be there for them. Please make a donation - no amount is too small! Together, I believe we can end Alzheimer's disease and see the first survivor in our lifetime.
Thank you!
