Way back in 2008, I applied for a job with the Alzheimer's Association, to start the very first Silicon Valley Memory Walk. I had recently lost my Grandpa Hale to the disease and the job posting jumped out at me. They took a chance on me, which launched my career into the fundraising world. The walk was rebranded to Walk to End Alzheimer's and I managed the Silicon Valley event in 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011. This photo is at the 2010 walk - my mom walked every year in memory of her dad. We called our team Hale's Angels.
In a crazy small world, our amazing team captain, Matt Katawicz, was one of my first volunteers. He was a teenager when we met and I was impressed by his passion and drive to be part of the cause. He joined the volunteer committee and chaired the walk, and recruited the Leigh High School Marching Band to lead off the walk. Fast forward to 2025 - Matt and I have both relocated to the east coast and have managed to stay in touch all these years.
Alzheimer’s isn’t stopping and neither are we. By participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s, I’m raising awareness and funds to advance the fight against this disease — funds that allow the Alzheimer’s Association to provide 24/7 care and support while accelerating critical research.
Families facing Alzheimer’s and all other dementia need us — and with your help, we can be there for them. Please make a donation or register as a participant and start your own fundraising efforts. Together, we can end Alzheimer’s disease.
Thank you for your support!
