My grandmother had Alzheimer’s before she passed away. My other grandmother just recently celebrated her birthday, and she, too, is living with dementia. These two incredible women have shaped my life in countless ways—through their love, their strength, and the wisdom they shared before this disease began to take pieces of them away.
I’ve admired them both so deeply, and today, I want to honor them. Dementia and Alzheimer’s don’t just affect individuals—they impact entire families and communities. Watching someone you love slowly fade is heartbreaking, and it’s a reality too many people face.
I do everything I can to take care of my health and be proactive in my own future, but I also know that understanding this disease is just as important as trying to prevent it. Raising awareness, supporting research, and learning how to best care for those affected can make all the difference.
I celebrate these remarkable women. And I encourage all of us to take a moment to learn, to support, and to remember that while dementia may steal memories, it can never erase the love they’ve given us.
