It is common knowledge that Alzheimer's robs people of their ability to remember, but other truths about the disease remain unknown. This year (2023) our family has been hit by this devastating disease. Two aunts and a grandmother passed away with Lewy Body and mixed Alzheimer’s. Both types affect everyone in the family, it takes lots of personal care, understanding the stages of the disease, knowing how to respond to their behaviors, and giving them as much independence as possible while keeping them safe. People with Alzheimer’s have issues with thinking skills, impaired reasoning, or judgment, trouble with personal hygiene, and unable to carry out daily tasks anymore. As the disease progresses, some become angry, violent, hallucinate, delusions, paranoia, wandering, withdrawn, mood and personality changes. All these changes are real and difficult for loved ones to see and not take it personally. Our mission is to continue to advocate for resources and support the funding for personal care support and research in order to find a cure. The Alzheimer’s walk is one way to contribute. I urge you to join the fight, join committees and meet others who share your commitment. No matter your story or your fundraising ability, please join us for a touching meaningful day, regardless!! I hope that you will JOIN OUR TEAM. I can't wait to hear YOUR REASON(s) WHY and spend the morning hearing inspirational stories of love and support.
