I'm walking...
For the dozens of people and families I know that are, and have been, affected by Alzheimer's.
For the hundreds of client's that we have served that are affected by Alzheimer's.
For the thousands of client's in the future we will serve that will be affected by Alzheimer's.
For one particular family - MINE.
For 11 years or so, my mother progressed through Alzheimer's and ultimately passed in 2015 from this terrible disease. I, along with my family and extended family and friends can attest to the devastation this disease causes in so many ways.
My mother, along with my father, provided me great inspiration to be where I am today, particularly caring for seniors. For 30 years my mom was a beautician. She specialized in providing hair care services for seniors. From my earliest memory I can recall visiting her, and helping her, at her shop in the basement of two local nursing homes. As the senior population and housing options began changing, the second half of her career was spent visiting her clients in their homes and apartments. Specifically, she sought out people that did not have the ability or means to travel to a beauty shop.
Although having their hair done was always the utmost important event for her clients, it was also the joy in the companionship she provided, the little chores she would do while the perm was setting or the hair was drying or the errand she would run for her clients. She always went above and beyond and she always cared - two traits I recognize are paramount in our industry and two traits that constantly guide me and guide my leadership of Right at Home.
Please help
On behalf of her, my family that cared for her, and everyone else in the world that is impacted by the effects of Alzheimer's, join me helping to wipe this disease from the planet. Please consider a donation to the Alzheimer's Association. They are doing tons of great work, yet they need our support more than ever.
