Unfortunately, like many, I got involved with the Alzheimer's Association because my family was affected. First, it was my Grandma that passed with Alzheimer's. My aunt was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's in her early 50's and now my father, who was diagnosed in his mid 60's with Frontotemporal Degeneration or FTD, another dementia disease. As we watch our loved ones suffer from these diseases we began to reach out to the resources that can help and the Alzheimer's Association is front and center. The more people I met through meetings, conferences and walks the more people I found that were in the same position. They were caregivers, people that lost loved ones and people currently coping with someone they knew with Alzheimer's. We had a common theme and that was nearly all of us felt isolated dealing with this enormous issue. It's emotional. It's heart breaking and every day it's front and center. The Alzheimer's Association wants you to know that you are not alone. There are resources available for both caregivers and sufferers of the disease. There are support groups and many others out there like us. Together we can fight this disease through awareness and research. We want to use the Walk and the dollars we raise to support these programs and most importantly research to continue to the fight to find the first survivor. Please help me and others like me and consider donating or walking with me to end Alzheimer's.
