#ENDALZ
I am proud to walk to honor my mom, Karen Paulus, who sadly lost her battle with Alzheimer's on February 9, 2024. Mom spent 3 1/2 years in Memory Care at St. Camillus, lucky to be supported by an incredible team of committed caregivers, as well as her family, friends and special companion care friend. As the daughter, I experienced first hand how caring for a loved one, a parent, with Alzheimer's is a journey of uncertainty, for the caregiver, the family and the afflicted, where each day, I lost a little bit more of the mom I had always known. Yet I remained grateful for the little signs that indicated she was still the sweet, gentle, kind and loving person she had always been, up until her final days.
As I walk for my mom, I am appreciative of the many family and friends who have continued to support me, and for the knowledge and resources of the Alzheimer's Association of SE WI, who equipped me to truly understand how to best care for someone with Alzheimer's.
As someone who has lost both a grandfather and mother to Alzheimer's, I can only wonder what the future will hold for me. Your gift to the Walk to End Alzheimer’s brings us closer to a world without this terrible disease. Please make a donation to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association. Join me in the fight against Alzheimer's! #ENDALZ
