I've seen the devastation of this disease firsthand. My stepdad, Bill, passed away from Alzheimer's in February 2020 just before the COVID lockdown and just two weeks shy of his 92nd birthday. Now I try to only remember the time before the disease took it's toll on him -- the time when he was a self-employed certified public accountant, making his living working with numbers, the time when he loved history and read voraciously, the time when he flew his Beechcraft Bonanza and was a past president of the local AOPA (Airplane Owner and Pilots' Association). Bill was the only dad I've ever known and the only grandpa my girls have known. It was devastating and heartbreaking to watch his decline and the toll it had on us, his caregivers. During the last couple of years before his passing, Bill no longer recognized his family or even himself in pictures. I'm leading Team Expeditors as a way to honor Bill, to raise awareness and hopefully to raise funds as well, so that we can find a cure in our lifetime!
Please join me in leading the way to Alzheimer's first survivor by participating in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's®. Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.
Together, we can end Alzheimer's disease. Please show your support for the cause by signing up as a participant with Team Expeditors. There is no registration fee to join the walk, and fundraising isn't required to participate. Conversely, if you do want to help raise money, you can join the team too. You don't have to walk in order to be on Team Expeditors. And, you have a third choice: if you don't want to walk and you don't want to fundraise, you can still make a difference by donating any amount you choose to my goal or to the team goal to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association.
Thank you for joining the fight against Alzheimer's!
