My mother was 40 when I was born and we had 35 happy years together. The last ten years, however, were invaded by the sadness of Alzheimer's Disease. From my wedding in 1980 until her passing in 1990, it was clear that something was wrong with sweet Maggie. Back then we didn't have much information to go on, but I'll never forget the blessing of a supportive family, her loving husband (my dad), and finally hospice angels who supported us all through the worst.
I'm letting myself hope that there could be a cure out there so others won't suffer as Maggie did. And, so, I'm again joining the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's. More than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to 16 million by 2050.
Contributions to the Walk go to advance the care and support of those who suffer today and for research to find a cure. Help put an end to this terrible disease. Love, Mary
