When my mom was 44 years old, I was born. Before my tenth birthday she started showing signs that something was not right. My first memory of hearing what was wrong, were the words 'organic brain syndrome'. Later becoming the diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease. My teenage years were spent helping as well as I could with normal routine things that became increasingly more difficult for my mom. my brothers and sisters were also a part of this care and my dad exhibiting unconditional love, kept mom at home caring for her even as he fought his own battle with lung cancer. In 1985, dad was told by his doctor that he must give up his caring for her at home and she was moved to the nursing home that I was working at as a CNA. Six weeks later, as my husband and I witnessed, she took her last breath. She was 68 years old. I was 24.The fight to end this disease is very personal! That is why I participate in the Walk to End Alzheimer's. If you can donate to my efforts please follow the link to give. If you would like to give with cash/check, please contact me, town61@gmail.com, and I will arrange to receive your donation personally. Thank you for reading my story, for understanding that there are many who have suffered with this disease, or been a caregiver, and the numbers are rising all the time. at the age I am now, my mom was in the midst of the disease. I want to end this disease for my children, my grandson and all future generations!!
