Hello, my name is Diane Hanson-Johnson and I am the Captain for Team Colonial Heritage for 2024. I lost my mom to Alzheimer's and being a nurse, I can pretty much handle any medical condition that comes along, but the experience of losing a loved one twice, is something that is difficult to overcome; once when they no longer know who you are, and again when they pass. Since my mother's passing, I have lost a high school classmate, and I have several friends diagnosed with this disease. As I talk with others, it seems everyone knows someone suffering from some form of dementia, or they have lost a loved one to Alzheimer's. I now walk for a group of people that I care about, and I am proud to be a part of the Colonial Heritage Team. Maggie Rogers has joined me as Co-Captain this year and can be reached at morrmaggie@gmail.com. Colonial Heritage set records in donations for 2021 and 2022 but was a bit shy from our goal in 2023. Judy Updike had an all time record however in 2023, going over $7,000! I hope we can break another record in 2024. The donations raised for the Walk do not just go for research but help support those struggling with the disease, or are a caregiver for someone. I would like for everyone to ask a friend, neighbor, or relative to join our Walk to help us have another successful year! Remember, you are not alone, come Walk with us or come to one of the Interest Group Meetings.
Our walk this year will be on Saturday, October 26th in Newtown, please mark this date on your calendar and join our team to help raise money and awareness and make Alzheimer's Disease a thing of the past.
Thank you,
Diane
