My father passed away from Alzheimer's five years ago. He was such a great father to his three girls and a wonderful husband to my mother. He grew up in Garner, NC, son of a farmer who was also a preacher and teacher. He studied at Wake Forest and then served his country in the Army Air Corps, flying B24 and B25 bombers. After the war he and my mother got married, and he started his career with IBM. He retired from IBM after 45 years in Boca Raton, Florida. He loved golf, fishing, shooting, dancing, and our golden retrievers. Dad always was the life of the party, making women feel beautiful and telling jokes with the boys. I had so many special memories with him. He was my fishing and golf buddy. I always think of just how lucky we were growing up with such a strong and kind father. For strong men like my father, Alzheimer's is the cruelest disease you can get. My wonderful husband also lost his mother to this deadly disease. Women tend to live much longer with ALZ, which is so difficult on the families who are taking care of them. Alzheimer's must be eradicated from our world!
