We want to see the first white flower, which will represent a cure to the disease Cindy, her memories and those around her have been afflicted by. 

Cindy's Alzheimer's journey began a little before her going through lots of testing in and around 2018. Mom (Cindy) was diagnosed with a type of Dementia (FTD) in 2018 and later Alzheimer's in late 2020 by her Neurologists here in Lubbock. Sadly, this was not too long after her mother, Evelyn, lost her battle with dementia in 2013. Evelyn, also lost two siblings to the disease, as well. 

We thought we understood Alzheimer's before. It takes away your memory and eventually your speech. However, until you see it up close, you don't realize how much it changes you or your loved one. If you were blessed to know Mom before she was sick, she was a happy, extrovert who would gladly tell a stranger her whole life story. She loved to entertain with dramatic stories and enjoyed being the "life of the party." She loved others deeply and would give to those around her, even it meant her going without.  Though those close to her occasionally see a glimpse of Cindy and she tries to share what is left of her core memories, most often we see how the disease has taken her personality and spontaneous spirit. 

So we pray, we hope and we walk for a cure. For the first survivor of this awful disease. A cure for the individual and their family. We long for a world without Alzheimer's/Dementia. Though we know healing is coming eventually, we pray for a day that core memories aren't affected and people are free from such a terrible disease.
