It's been years since I lost my mother. But I lost my mom and best friend several years before that. That's what this horrible disease does. You lose the person you knew and loved long before it takes the body away. Not a day goes by that I don't miss mom and wish she was still here. I wish I could still see that familiar smile or hear one more "Oh Boy!" when she saw anything chocolate, handing her a drink at Happy Hour or tucking her in at night. Or see that split second when there would be a flicker of recognition in her eyes when she saw me. But I know that's being selfish.
Her memories may have faded with the progression of this disease but my memories of her are still strong. Even though she's been gone for a while now, this is my way of honoring her and showing my love and respect for the best mother ever!
Ever wonder why there is so little publicity about Alzheimer's disease? Maybe its because there are no survivors, those living with the disease no longer have the ability and active caregivers don’t have the time or energy to call attention to this devastating disease that it needs and deserves.
By participating in the 2024 Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's, I'm committed to raising awareness and funds for Alzheimer research, care and support as well as to honor the memory of my beautiful mother, Nada.
I need your support to do my part and be the voice of all those living with this disease and their caregivers! Please make a donation to our team, Nada's Sweet Nothings, to help the Alzheimer's Association advance research into prevention, treatments and a cure for Alzheimer's.
Thank you for joining our movement! The end of Alzheimer's disease starts here.
