Through this dreaded disease I lost my mom several times during her illness. As the Alzheimer’s progressed she would be a complete different person so as soon as I got used to “that” mom I would meet “another” mom. Our Lord called her home on March 15, 2021. Although it has been 3 years, I still miss her terribly, but I’m learning to share all her memories with a smile instead of tears…especially the one where she took the fire extinguisher and tried to “extinguish” herself! She didn’t hurt herself, and now I can say she was trying to extinguish her Alzheimer’s and not herself. I also know that she is no longer suffering.
This picture is of my mom and dad who had been married over 50 years and were attending one of their grandsons engagement parties. She may not be here for me to see and hug her or celebrate Mother's Day with her, but I can certainly relive the many good memories we had together.
Alzheimer's is not gone and its still hurting many people so we have to continue fighting in any way we can until IT is gone. Please help in leading the way to Alzheimer's first survivor by participating in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's®. Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.
Together, we can end Alzheimer's disease. Please make a donation to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association.
Thank you for joining the fight against Alzheimer's!
