I am walking and fundraising this year in honor of multiple family members. Over the years, I have great memories shared with them that also plagued by this disease. My first was remembering visiting my Great Grandmother in the nursing home who was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. Being a young age, it was hard for me to comprehend why she didn't know who we were. We would talk to her, hold her hand, and take pictures. But, she would look at me in totally confusion. My great Uncle was the man who led me to fall in love with horses. He would take me to the barn and taught me how to train and handle them. At the age of 13, I was able to get my own horse. Many years later, he could no longer go to the barn as he would get lost driving even though they had lived in the same area and that was his same routine for the majority of his marriage. My Grandfather has not currently been diagnosed but the family is worried it is coming. He has shown signs and his brother and mother are the family memories I stated above. Alzheimer’s isn’t stopping and neither are we. By participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s, I’m raising funds and awareness to advance the fight against this disease — funds that allow the Alzheimer’s Association to provide 24/7 care and support while accelerating critical research. Please join me by donating or participating in the walk.
