I was blessed to spend every day with mom during the last year of her life. She remained the same sweet, gentle person throughout her seventeen years of living with Alzheimer's, even at its worst. Our last year together will forever be precious to me. Toward the end, mom did not know me; however, she remained sweet and kind, though rarely verbal. But when I would sing to her--especially songs from church and songs from the 1940s--I could tell she felt some sort of connection, a familiarity. Music is powerful for people with Alzheimer's! Mom's been gone for six years and I miss her every day.
This disease takes the best of us all--those who have Alzheimer's, those who are caregivers, and those who love someone with Alzheimer's. Thank you for any help you can give toward winning the fight against Alzheimer's: Help with compassion and understanding. Help financially. Help by walking with us on October 26, 2024. Or better yet--do all three! Let's fight to ensure that Alzheimer's will someday become a thing of the past!
