After losing their beloved grandmothers to Alzheimer’s, longtime friends Brooke Burgher Gibbs and Tara Maddox founded GrandStands for a Cure, a fundraising team for the Alzheimer’s Association. Tara, who lovingly called her grandmother "Granny," and Brooke, who affectionately referred to her grandmother as "Meemaw," wanted to ensure that these beloved and influential women were honored. With the support of their mutual friend Lindsey Ramey, who was working with the Alzheimer’s Association at the time, they formed a passionate organization of grandchildren â€standing up’ for a cure in memory of their grandparents.
Tragically, Brooke passed away unexpectedly in 2017. In honor of her unwavering dedication to Alzheimer’s awareness, donations poured in, making GrandStands for a Cure one of the largest fundraising teams in the nation. This surge of support propelled GrandStands for a Cure to new heights. Over the past seven years, the Alzheimer’s Association has made significant advancements, with GrandStands’ efforts and contributions playing a crucial role in these achievements.
We all know someone who is battling this disease. Too many of us have lost loved ones to Alzheimer’s.
So please, show your support for that relative, or friend, or colleague, or your loved one, who has been impacted by this terrible disease. Show that you care and want to support those who are on the forefront of research to find a cure for this disease. As those of us who have witnessed this disease first hand know, it usually attacks the elderly (but not always!), but it ALWAYS affects generations of a family. One of our team goals is to involve entire families - spouses, children, grandkids, great-grandkids, and, of course, friends who are family - so come on!
WALK WITH US ON NOVEMBER 9, 2024.
We will walk the walk and talk the talk to fight this disease, and then return to the Burgher home for a post-walk party.
