I lost my father-in-law to Alzheimer's.
He was a very successful businessman who had financially planned for his future. He traveled most of his working life around the world with his job and missed out on a lot of quality time with his family. He couldn’t wait to retire and spend time with his family and his grandchildren. He took early retirement at the age of 57. What plans he had! And then, at age 58, he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. The disease moved quickly. After a few years, there was a healthcare worker coming into the home to help take care of him. But it became too much and he had to be placed in an Alzheimer’s facility. He stayed at the facility until he died at the age of 64.
I'm leading the way to Alzheimer's first survivor by participating in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's®. Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease. The end of Alzheimer's starts with me — but I can’t do it alone.Together, we can end Alzheimer's disease. Please make a donation to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association.
