SANDY'S STORY (from a dear friend): My sister Sandy was diagnosed with Alzheimer's two years ago. She is 66 and it's been a slow progression over many years. Today, she's at an advanced stage with delusions, distrust of some people, wandering ,anger episodes and difficulty putting thoughts together. She will pack her clothes everyday because she wants to go home or to hide her belongings from the people that are "stealing" them. I could give an example of every symptom but this would be too long. On the flip side, she's very healthy and can walk 10 miles a day. She laughs, smiles and dances and will do anything you want to do. She has memories of the past and will talk about OUR parents and her sisters. I am her sister and she no longer knows me, but trusts me. I don't know what the next stage will be like!?!?
Alzheimer’s isn’t stopping and neither are we. By participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s, I’m raising awareness and funds to advance the fight against this disease — funds that allow the Alzheimer’s Association to provide 24/7 care and support while accelerating critical research.
Please help me help people like Sandy!
