My family is profoundly impacted by the disease of Alzheimer's. First it took the life of my Grandpa, who I called Pop. Then it took the lives of 4 of Pop's siblings. Now my Dad is the first of his generation to receive a dementia diagnosis. The most important and brilliant man in my life is changing before my eyes.
Because I work in this field, I know what lies ahead for Dad, for Mom, my brother, the grandkids. It isn't pretty. I want a cure. Maybe it is selfish of me, but I want a cure before I receive a diagnosis, which is likely given my DNA. For as long as I am able, I will walk in hopeful anticipation of a cure or until the day one is found.
