Jimmy Buffett's father, James Delaney ("JD") Buffett, died from Alzheimer's disease in May 2003 at age 83. In "A Pirate Looks at Fifty", Jimmy told the story of he and his mother being with J.D. in 1995 when he heard his diagnosis, "My dad just breathed very deep, looked at us both, laughed his familiar laugh, and in a disbelieving tone said, 'Goddamn,'" Jimmy recalled in "A Pirate Looks at Fifty."
It is rare to find someone in our clubs or other social circles that have not been touched by Alzheimer's directly or through family or friends that are dealing with the devastation of this disease. We continue to work to fund Alzheimer's Association with the hope that the number of people impacted will someday start to decline.
