Each year I walk in theAlzheimer's Walk in memory of my Grandmother, Olive Mae Wickman. She loved to walk. When my grandparents visited us in Tennessee (prior to moving to Tennessee) or we visited them in Michigan, Grandma did not miss her daily walks and sometimes we would go with her. She was a not even 5 feet but when you walked with her you better be ready for a workout. You might even have to run to keep up with her. She was also a wiz with numbers. The love of playing games was passed down from her and she was always the score keeper. Never using a calculator. As she advanced in her Alzheimer’s, I remember those two things fading from her life slightly. She still walked but not with the same gusto. She still played games but did not take score. I miss her often.
Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change thecourse of this disease.
Together, we can end Alzheimer's disease. Please donate to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association.
Thank you for joining the fight against Alzheimer's!
