Ted Jernigan did a lot with his life. He was a Special Forces Medic career Army soldier who didn’t shy away from any challenge. When he retired, he became a respiratory therapist, working for 5 years in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. He then went into teaching as Clinical Coordinator of the Respiratory Therapist program at our local community college. This is when Parkinson’s and Lewy Body Dementia struck. lt was a challenge he couldn’t conquer.
Ted was my everything. Ted was our girls’ everything. Our world stopped when he got diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia. After a 7 year struggle, we lost him on February 21, 2013, barely 2 weeks after his 58th birthday. The Mayo Clinic doctors used every weapon they had to help us make the most of those years we had left with him. I will always treasure the time we had because of the advances in research that had already been made. Please donate what you can so maybe a cure can be found.
