My brother, Matt Park was diagnosed with Early Onset Frontal Lobe Dementia at the age of 53. As a family, we thought back on it and figured he probably started with it 5-10 years prior to diagnosis. We have a big family who has taken turns caring for him, until it got too hard, even with in home caretakers. We talked to his neurologist who told us it was time to put him a home. We moved him to the best place and he didn't give us any distress about going. He's progressing in his dementia and we see changes each visit He still knows who most of us are. Usually, by the end of a visit at Aiken Memory Care (where he now lives) he remembers. It's heartbreaking seeing a younger sibling go through this.
2024 - Matt has now been moved to the more progressed side of the facility. He has progressed enough that we’ve had to change his meds and have someone sit with him in the afternoon as he’s started with Sundowners where he “acts up". Right now the extra care giving is being split with family members.
**UPDATE…Matt passed Sunday 10Mar24. He lived 7 years after being diagnosed with this horrible disease, but is now whole and with his Heavenly Father!
Alzheimer's isn't stopping and neither are we. By participating in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's, I'm raising funds and awareness to advance the fight against this disease - funds that allow the Alzheimer's Association to provide 24/7 care and support while accelerating critical research.
Families facing Alzheimer's and all other dementia need us now more than ever - and with your help, we can be there for them. Please make a donation or register as a participant and start your own fundraising. Together, we can end Alzheimer's disease.
Thank you!
