My Mom started showing signs of this illness in 2019, and I either didn't see it or want to acknowledge it .By June of 2021 she was officially diagnosed with Stage 2 Alzhimers Disease, although looking back I think she was further along than originally diagnosed. Needless to say it was a very difficult journey dealing with this, at first the changes were subtle, then became more noticeable. She didn't know the address here at the house, or what year it was , etc. I would go into the bathroom and cry into a towel, I didn't want my Mom to see this for obvious reasons. Unless you've gone through this with a loved one, you have no idea what it's like. I'll just say it was rough, and yes I was frustrated many times, but NEVER at my Mom, always at this horrible disease . She fell in January of 2022, and that I believe was the beginning of the end for her. It became very difficult for her to walk and Hospice was called in shortly thereafter. I took a month off from work, and also had help from a neighbor, who was a Godsend.. My Mom passed away on February 6th 2022 at home .My Mom was very smart and intelligent woman who held many jobs throughout her life, she loved to read and do puzzles in the newspaper., all of that stopped once this illness took hold.. This is an illness that doesn't discriminate who gets it, that what makes it horrible, it takes everything, your sense of self, dignity , you name .A cure for this disease needs to be found ,so hopefully one day , we can look back and this illness will be nothing but a memory .These are many of the reasons I do the Alzheimer's Walk, this is my 3rd year walking in honor of Mom If you are able please consider a donation to this cause, anything helps , no matter what amount ..
Thank you
