Our family will be participating in The Walk to End Alzheimer's this year on Saturday, September 16th. It will be held in historic Gettysburg at the Gettysburg Area Recreation Authority Park with things getting underway at 9:00am.
We’re walking to help reclaim the future for millions of people. As many of you know, we lost my dear maternal grandmother, Deloris Rhone, to this awful disease years ago. She was known to many people as "Red Rhone" (because of her red hair) and she loved red birds. So, years ago, that's why our family named our team "Red Rhone's Red Birds"! I know she has looked down on us, especially when we see a cardinal.
Now, I also walk for my father, Landon, who was diagnosed with early onset almost five years ago. Seeing him on the day of The Walk holding that blue flower representing he had Alzheimer's was heartbreaking to me. There will always be a reason for us to fight this disease. Daily life has recently become so different than what our family was “used” to. You think time goes by so slow, but really, it passes so quickly. Never take what you have for granted! And let’s think about the caregivers for those family members struggling with Alzheimer’s. It’s not easy for them, either.
By participating in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's, we're committed to raising awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s research, care and support.
Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Can you believe that? That is truly sad. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.
We need your support to do our part! Every little bit helps. Please make a donation to help the Alzheimer's Association advance research into prevention, treatments and a cure for Alzheimer's. For the millions already affected by the disease, the Association offers care, education, support and resources in communities nationwide.
Thank you for joining our movement! It doesn't matter how big or how small the donation, it all adds up. I appreciate each and every one of you who has and will support this cause! The end of Alzheimer's disease starts here. Anyone's welcome to join our team in memory of Granny Rhone and in honor of my father or in honor of anyone living with this disease. Contact myself, or any of the Rhone Family for more information.
Thank you all.
With love,
Angie Horn
