Welcome to our team page for the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer's®! Walk is the largest event to raise funds and awareness for the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association®. It’s held annually in more than 600 communities nationwide, and our team is excited to participate this year. Here is our story of why I walk:
Our mom was an orphan by the age of 16. Her older brother Henry aka "Duz" became her parent. My mom and dad raised 5 kids and Uncle Duz remained a lifelong bachelor. As the years went by, Uncle Duz, became forgetful, confused so our mom became his care taker.
Alzheimer's disease took the memory and mind of our uncle. Later after our uncle passed our mother also started showing signs of Alzheimer's. The disease progression was difficult for all of us to watch. The slow decline of mental capacity was heartbreaking but the beauty of their souls shone in their bright eyes.
So yes, We are walking in memory of my mom and Uncle. More importantly I am walking to support the Alzheimer's Association for the future of our children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. We want to do all that we can so that they will not have to bear witness of the devastating effects of Alzheimer's.
Thank you and may God Bless you!
Currently, more than 6 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's and over 11 million family and friends provide their unpaid care. We need your help to end this devastating disease.
