My Dad loved to garden ~ especially growing his strawberries. He built us a swimming pool and maintained it later in life for his grandchildren, whom he adored and loved to tease. I remember my dad shaking his head saying something is wrong... we knew and loved him even more. He’s suffered with this disease for 10 years. It was heart wrenching watching him struggle daily. He died from complications of Alzheimer's in 2008.
My family used the resources of the Alzheimer’s Association while my father was alive. My sister took my Mom to the monthly Alzheimer’s meetings to understand the disease better and learn how to cope. It was there she found tips on things she could do daily to help my Dad and protect him also. She would say she told “ little white lies” to help him. She is the hero in our family. She was devoted to my Dad and cared for him deeply.
The mission of the Alzheimer’s Association is to eliminate Alzheimer's disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health.
I hope you will consider donating to my walk! Every little bit helps!
