I have experienced this disease first hand, caregiving for my husband John, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer's at age 57. The challenges he and I faced were draining and so very heartbreaking on us both, not to mention his children, grandchildren and family. He passed at home at the age of 67. I have fundraised every year since his death (2014) as the team captain of Johnny's Angels through The Rehoboth Walk to End Alzheimer's. My wish in life is to see the very FIRST SURVIVOR of this horrific disease so PLEASE.... JOIN ME IN THIS FIGHT

Our lives changed forever when we heard these words, “I’m sorry” all the tests we gave John tells us that he has Alzheimer’s. He was 57 years old. Slowly our lives changed from enjoying our everyday life to planning for the future and how to live with this disease that would slowly kill John's brain cells and eventually him. Knowing there was no cure or reasons on how this disease develops and wanting to keep him home with me, I started reading everything I could. I went to support groups, conferences and anything that was available to try to understand as much as possible on how I could help find a cure, take care of John, myself and my family. As much of a challenge that it was for me, it was so much more of a challenge for John. He started forgetting people, his life with them, their names. He looked around at the people who had been in his life for years, his son, granddaughters, family and me, not knowing who they were and why they were even there with him. Stop and imagine for one moment, what a confusing, and terrifying feeling that must have been for John. Eventually he lost his ability to walk, talk, eat and drink. That is why I fundraise, to help find a cure for Alzheimer’s. It’s too late for John, who passed, at home, on Oct 12, 2014 at the young age of 67.
