I'm walking in memory of my mom, Mary Worman, who died February 27, 2019 after a ten plus year battle with Lewy Body Dementia, a form of Alzheimer's where the symptoms of Parkinson's and Alzheimer's are combined. Mom was a talented pianist and church organist for nearly 60 years, but towards the end of her life, she could neither move nor speak and was on hospice for nearly three years.
By participating in the 2024 Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's, I'm committed to raising awareness and funds for Alzheimer research, care and support. I want to prevent others from suffering such a horrible disease.
Many of you supported my effort last year and I raised over $12,500 dollars! Thank you so much! I am shooting for $10,000 this year, but I am hoping I can beat my 2023 record.
I am walking to help end this disease. If you have never done this Walk, it is extremely moving. All the walkers carry flowers of different colors to signify why they are walking. When you see the expanse of flowers representing those who have lost loved ones to the disease or who are caring for those with the disease, it is a very emotional time.
Currently, more than 6.5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 13 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease. The economic and emotional toll on families already is enormous and will only get worse.
Please make a generous donation to help the Alzheimer's Association advance research into prevention, treatments and a cure for Alzheimer's. For the millions already affected by the disease, the Association offers care, education, support and resources in communities nationwide.
Thank you for joining our movement! The end of Alzheimer's disease starts here.
Sincerely,
Carol
