Alzheimer’s isn’t stopping and neither are we. By participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s®, I’m raising funds and awareness to advance the fight against this disease — funds that allow the Alzheimer’s Association® to provide 24/7 care and support while accelerating critical research.
We lost my mom's only sister, my beloved Aunty Ida, to this disease, and then it took her life. Unlike many, we were lucky that through the terrible progression of her loss of recent memory, to loss of recognition of her family, loss of the ability to speak, move, eat, and finally, loss of life, Aunty Ida retained her bright spirit and generous smile. So often, as people progress into the depths of dementia, they become strangers to their families as well as strangers to themselves. Happily, Ida's personality never changed from the sweet, loving, caring person we knew.
