I HATE THIS DISEASE! As most of you know, our family has been personally affected by this DEVASTATING disease with my mom. I am 51 years old and although my mom is still physically living; I lost her long ago. I hate not being able to ask my mom for advice and to have her shoulder to cry on. In March of 2023, with my dad in the hospital passing from cancer, I made the hardest decision ever to place my mom in memory care. It was the hardest 3 months as she tried to acclimate to her new environment. She had NEVER been on her own before this transition. Although she has adjusted to her new environment for the most part this is NOT FAIR. Unlike Cancer and other diseases, there is NOTHING that can slow down my mom's progression. There is no chance for her to beat this disease! I am so scared for the day where she will no longer remember me.
In part I walk for my children and their children. Did you know that people with a parent with Alzheimers are more prone to inheriting this disease? Did you know that someone is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s every 60 seconds in the United States and over 1/3 of us will have Alzheimers by the age of 85? The odds are NOT in our favor.
This is my fourth year of being part of this walk and this year I’ve committed to sharing and doing more to help this cause. I’ve volunteered to be the Community Engagement Chair for the Salem walk and be a part of my local ALZ committee.
Together, we can end Alzheimer's disease. Please make a donation to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association.
Thank you for joining the fight against Alzheimer's!
Bless you all!!
